Ming-Yang High School's No. 6 Choir Performs at 2026 "Come Hear Me Sing" Shan-Geng 365 Charity Music Festival
On April 17 and 18, 2026, Ming-Yang High School’s "No. 6 Choir" participated in the "2026 Come Hear Me Sing – Shan-Geng 365 Charity Music Festival" held at Feng Chia University in Taichung. Delivering sincere and delicate vocal performances of the songs The Guest and When We Say Goodbye, the choir received an enthusiastic response from the audience. By bringing together performances from students of different ages and schools, this year’s music festival provided a platform for students to stand on stage, tell their own stories through music, and learn to understand emotions and express themselves through song.
The school’s "No. 6 Choir," consisting of 11 students, took part in the performance under the conducting of Ms. Wang Yu-Ling, a professional trained by the Shan-Geng Foundation, with the school’s own Ms. Lee Chia-Ying providing piano accompaniment. Throughout the performance, the students sang to the melodies of growth, companionship, and parting—at times pouring their hearts out in gentle whispers, and at others, in firm and profound echoes. Every line of song embodied the dedication and courage from their long hours of rehearsal, earning them waves of warm applause from the crowd.
"How are those we once loved doing now? Do you still remember me?" As When We Say Goodbye begins, the lyrics transcend a mere musical story for the students; instead, they serve as a reflective glance at their own pasts. In everyone's heart, there might be someone they wished they hadn't missed, alongside moments of confusion and stumbling. Music allowed those unspoken and complex emotions to be slowly sung out and gently set in order.
The process of choir practice tests not only vocal skills but also mutual chemistry and trust. From initially struggling with the rhythm and failing to blend their voices, to gradually and stably producing harmonies, the students learned to slow down and listen to one another through countless rehearsals, stepping into a deeper understanding of teamwork. Some were responsible for carrying the melody, while others silently steadied the beat; every vocal part was indispensable. Through this process of companionship and adaptation, the students gradually built up the courage to face an audience and developed a sense of self-affirmation.
The name "No. 6 Choir" is derived from the school’s street address, "No. 6," symbolizing a fresh start for the students at a new turning point in their lives. For them, this performance was not just a show, but a rare and valuable life experience. One student shared: "It’s hard to believe that I could actually stand on stage and share my singing with so many people. This will be an unforgettable memory for the rest of my life."
Music may not instantly transform a life, but it plants a seed of inner strength. It is highly hoped that the students will carry forward the confidence and inspiration gained from the stage, learn to make peace with their pasts, and continue to stride forward courageously on their future paths. Just as the lyrics echo: "The world is vast; I want to walk alongside you." May the students be understood and accompanied on their journey of growth, stepping piece by piece into a broader and more magnificent horizon of life.
