Ming-Yang High School Hosts 2026 First Campaign Lecture on Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention
In light of the endless stream of news reports regarding drunk and drugged driving, which pose severe threats to the lives, bodies, and properties of our citizens, Ming-Yang High School has actively promoted prevention initiatives. On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 2:55 PM to 4:40 PM, the school hosted its first "Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention and Education Lecture" of the year in the main auditorium. Attorney Lin Zong-Yi from Tian-Zheng International Law Firm was invited as the keynote speaker.
The objective of this lecture was to enhance awareness of drunk and drugged driving prevention among both the student inmates and faculty members. It was highly hoped that through this educational campaign, the students would fully recognize the immense harm such actions inflict on traffic safety and society, thereby internalizing the core value of abiding by the law. A total of 191 participants attended the lecture, including 78 faculty members and 113 students.
During the session, Attorney Lin began from a legal perspective, explaining the legislative evolution of laws regarding drunk and drugged driving, and systematically elaborating on current regulations and penalty frameworks. He reminded the audience that fines for drunk driving are cumulative and progressively severe, urging everyone never to drive under the influence, which harms both oneself and others. He also emphasized that a DUI incident is not simply settled by paying a fine; the subsequent legal repercussions warrant far greater attention.
Furthermore, Attorney Lin shared recent news reports on major casualties caused by drunk and drugged driving, hoping to evoke empathy among the attending faculty and students, and prompting them to reflect on whether the consequences of driving after drinking are truly worth the risk. He also noted that incidents of drugged driving have been steadily rising in recent years, with the average age of offenders trending younger. Chasing a momentary thrill from drugs can result in lifelong, indelible trauma for victims, leaving offenders to face severe legal liabilities and compensation issues in the future—a reality that demands utmost caution.
The lecture was rich in content. Throughout the session, Attorney Lin repeatedly highlighted the key points of traffic regulations, which not only deepened the audience's understanding but also helped establish proper right-of-way concepts. This knowledge serves to prevent the devastating regret of taking to the road under the influence of alcohol or drugs. (Office of Student Affairs)
