In accordance with the Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice's "2025 Fund Allocation Table for Drunk Driving Offender Treatment" and our school's "Drunk Driving Offender Treatment Implementation Plan," Mingyang Junior High School held its first "Drunk Driving Prevention" lecture for 2025 in the auditorium on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 2:55 PM to 4:40 PM. We invited Protection Officer Tsai Yi-Ying from the Taiwan Kaohsiung Juvenile and Family Court to be the lecturer for this session.
The primary goal of this course was to enhance awareness of drunk driving prevention among students in custody and faculty members. We hoped that through this lecture, students would understand the dangers of drunk driving to their physical and mental well-being and internalize this into a law-abiding mindset. A total of 177 individuals attended the lecture, including 76 faculty and staff members and 101 students.
Protection Officer Tsai, with years of experience in juvenile protection, began the lecture by sharing practical examples of drunk driving incidents and the problems encountered by past counseling cases. This helped the audience understand that drunk driving is not merely about receiving a fine; often, the subsequent legal and rights issues are far more significant. Protection Officer Tsai also detailed key legal regulations and penalties, emphasizing to the audience that drunk driving fines are calculated cumulatively and increase with repeated offenses, urging everyone not to easily drink and drive and harm themselves or others. She also incorporated news reports of drunk driving cases into the curriculum, using current events to illustrate the pain caused to victims of drunk driving accidents and the legal and compensation issues faced by perpetrators. This encouraged participating faculty, staff, and students to empathize and reflect on whether temporary convenience is truly worth the potential consequences.
The course content was rich and informative. Throughout the lecture, Protection Officer Tsai repeatedly highlighted key traffic regulations. This not only reinforced the information for the audience but also helped establish correct road safety concepts and prevent the irreversible regret of driving under the influence.
