Ming Yang High School Meets Science with National Kaohsiung Normal University
On December 6, 2024, Ming Yang High School collaborated with the General Education Center of National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU) to host an interactive science experience camp. Led by Professor Chen Zhu-Shang, a team of 74 university students from NKNU's Mathematics and Chemistry Departments designed engaging science-based challenge stations, such as "Flying Magic Cup," "The Mystery of Surface Tension," and "Balancing Bird Experiment." The event took place in the Ming Yang High School cafeteria, with four selected classes participating in the challenge.
A Journey of Scientific Discovery
Throughout the event, students encountered various intellectual and physical challenges, testing their perseverance and problem-solving skills. Despite difficulties and occasional failures, they refused to give up, demonstrating resilience and determination. With guidance and encouragement from teachers, all students successfully completed the challenge stations.
Following the challenge activities, NKNU faculty and students were given a guided campus tour, further strengthening the connection between the two institutions and marking a perfect conclusion to the event.
Science in Everyday Life
This experience allowed Ming Yang students to realize that science is deeply intertwined with daily life. Principal Tu Zhihong emphasized that this initiative was strategically integrated into the first semester of the 113th academic year, inviting university faculty and students to introduce applied science through fun and interactive challenge games. This approach helped students rethink complex academic concepts and see how even the most abstract scientific theories can be applied to real-world situations.
Impact and Reflections
Both NKNU and Ming Yang students gained valuable insights from this activity, whether in teaching or learning. For the young participants, many of whom had once strayed off course, this event offered a profound realization: science is not just about formulas and theories but also about life, learning, and service.
At the end of the event, students voted for their favorite challenge station, wrapping up an engaging, intellectually stimulating, and enjoyable scientific experience.
